KRISTIAN CHONG - PIANO

Kristian Chong has performed extensively throughout Australia and the UK, and in China, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, and Zimbabwe. As soloist he has appeared with the Adelaide, Canberra, Melbourne, Queensland, Sydney and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, and orchestras in the UK and China with conductors including Andrey Boreyko, Nicholas Braithwaite, Roy Goodman, Sebastian Lang-Lessing, Nicholas Milton, Tuomas Oillia, Marcus Stenz, Arvo Volmer and Marco Zuccarini. Concerto highlights include Rachmaninoff’s 3rd with the Sydney Symphony, Rachmaninoff’s Paganini Rhapsody in Beijing and Britten with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Recent performances include Mozart with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven's Emperor and Saint-Saens in the UK, Beethoven's 2nd in Canberra and Chopin, Beethoven and Shostakovich in Melbourne.

A highly coveted chamber musician, recent collaborations include numerous performances with the Australian String Quartet, the Flinders Quartet, violinists Natsuko Yoshimoto, Elizabeth Layton (ex-concertmaster BBC Scottish), Ilya Konovalov, (concertmaster Israel Philharmonic) and trios with Yoshimoto and cellist Li-Wei Qin. He recently appeared at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music with clarinetist Michael Collins and violinist Jack Liebeck amongst others. In addition, Kristian debuted last year for ABC-Classics in a disc with baritone Teddy Tahu-Rhodes.

Kristian studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Piers Lane and Christopher Elton, and earlier at with at the University of Melbourne where Kristian currently teaches piano and chamber music.
