Praise for 'Beloved of the Gods':
"Melbourne’s Tinalley Quartet give a passionate and insightful account of (Mendelssohn's) his early A minor Quartet, Op.13, written in the year of Beethoven’s death. The 18-year-old Mendelssohn’s gifts of lyrical and contrapuntal invention are beautifully and delicately brought to life. Anyone who thinks Mendelssohn is synonymous with stodge would do well to listen to this."
Tony Way - The Age
"They play with dedication in every note, in every well-crafted phrase that emerges with a judicious mix of spontaneity and maturity."
Patricia Kelly - Courier Mail Australia
"The (Tinalley) Quartet is now recognised around the globe for its talent. The playing here is nothing short of brilliant, displaying a depth of understanding and a brilliant relationship between the players and their deep understanding of the music. "
Michael Southern - Pittwater Life Magazine, Australia
"The performance here, beautifully recorded, shows the quality of this youthful group — masterly playing and heartfelt interpretations of music titled with a deep question."
Geoff Adams - Ottago Daily Times, New Zealand
"Played by the Tinalley String Quartet , Mendelssohn’s opus 13 in A minor makes compelling listening. The opening adagio – allegro vivace is given a model reading in which the composer’s musical argument is expounded in sometimes achingly beautiful terms."
Neville Cohn - OzArtsReview

Dr Richard Meale MBE AM: 1932-2009
Tinalley String Quartet joins the Australian music community in expressing great sadness at the the loss of composer Richard Meale, who passed away on November 23rd 2009 aged 77.
As one of Australia's most distinguished composers, Richard received both national and international recognition, seeing his works represented at ISCM World Music Days, the Warsaw Autumn Festival and Paris Rostrum, as well as performed by many ensembles extensively throughout Australia.
His work as a noted lecturer, broadcaster, conductor and pianist also made a huge contribution to Australia's artistic community, particularly in his work bringing the ideas of international avant-garde music to Australia through premieres of composers such as Boulez, Messaien and Schoenberg.
For his contribution to Australian Music Richard Meale was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1971 and a Member of the Order of Australia in 1985. He received an Australian Artists Creative Fellowship in 1989, and the Australia Council’s Don Banks Music Award, the most valuable individual music prize in Australia, in 1997.
TSQ have recently performed Richard Meale's String Quartet No.2 - a pivotal work in his career and one that has won much admiration since its composition in 1980. The quartet will be included in programs that TSQ will perform in Europe in March 2010, and we are sure that it will be received as warmly as it has been in our concerts here in Australia.
Tinalley String Quartet extends its deep sympathy to Richard Meale's family and friends at this time.
